Giacomo’s modeling career began serendipitously when he was scouted on the street. Now a full-time model for almost a decade, he’s worked with renowned brands like Dolce & Gabbana and Moncler. Living in Dubai has broadened his perspective on fashion, and he values authenticity, resilience, and continual growth both professionally and personally.
1-Giacomo, I would like to start by asking you what inspired you to pursue a career in the fashion industry and how your journey has been so far?
My modeling career started by chance: I was stopped on the street and asked if I had ever thought about becoming a model, and that’s how it all began. I love this job because it gives you a lot of freedom and self-confidence. You have to learn to manage relationships with people well. I’ve now been working as a full-time model for almost 10 years, and I’ve worked for many famous brands in numerous countries. It’s a wonderful job that allows you to travel a lot and meet new people every day.
2-Living in Dubai can be a very different experience compared to life in Italy. How has living in such a cosmopolitan and dynamic city influenced your perception of the fashion industry and work in the sector?
Life in Dubai is completely different. Italy is a beautiful country and we have nothing to envy from the rest of the world, but in many aspects, we are still far behind. Besides the always warm weather that gives Dubai a perpetual summer atmosphere, everything works perfectly here: public services, job opportunities. I don’t think I’ll move back to Italy for a while; right now, I’m happy here.
3-You have had the opportunity to work with prestigious fashion brands like Dolce & Gabbana, Moncler, Valentino, and many others. What has been the most important lesson you have learned from these experiences, and how have they shaped you as a model and as a person?
I think working for these brands is a bit of a dream for everyone who pursues this career. Collaborating with these brands gives you a different awareness because anyone in this line of work knows there are good times and tough times. It’s an inconsistent job with periods of more work and others with less. However, working for these brands is very rewarding, but it’s important to always stay grounded and not let it go to your head.
4-How would you define the relationship between your personal identity and the image you project as a model? Are you able to maintain your authenticity despite the pressures of the industry?
I think it’s absolutely necessary to always be yourself, both in private life and at work. I’m a cheerful guy, always in a good mood and with a smile. Some people who don’t know me tend to judge me based on the image I project on social media, and I might seem like someone who’s full of himself, but that’s not the case at all; in fact, it’s quite the opposite. 5-Every career is characterized by highs and lows. Could you share with us a particularly challenging moment you faced in your journey as a model and how you overcame this challenge?
There was a very difficult and dark period when I couldn’t see myself with this job in the future. I had left football, which for me was more than a passion, it was a job, and I thought I had made a mistake. But in the end, I can say that I don’t regret it: it was tough, but it bore fruit.
6-Having traveled to so many countries, is there a place you visited that profoundly inspired you and influenced your perspective on the world and the fashion industry?
There isn’t one country in particular that has influenced my approach to fashion so much. Every country has different ways of doing things and working. It’s exciting to learn about new cultures, new working methods, and discover new local brands. I especially think that traveling so much is a way to open the mind. Visiting all these countries has definitely helped me grow, understand many things, and respect every type of culture and religion.
7-In the fashion world, one is often subject to judgments and criticisms. How do you maintain your self-esteem and confidence despite external pressures?
I’ve always been someone interested in others’ opinions, and I’ve always accepted all criticisms, positive or negative. However, criticisms or judgments have never brought me down. They interest me, but I always consider them an opportunity for reflection. I know my worth, so ultimately, it’s important to believe in oneself and keep moving forward. Unfortunately, people talk a lot.
8-Giacomo, if you could give advice to yourself at the beginning of your modeling career, what would it be?
A piece of advice I would give to myself would be not to let myself be discouraged. There will be people who will say no to you a million times, but in the end, if you believe in yourself, you can go anywhere
9-Looking to the future, what are your aspirations and next goals, both as a model and as a person?
It’s a question I often ask myself. I have many things I want to do, many projects I’m working on, which will be completed soon. In terms of work, I feel quite satisfied, but I’m not someone who settles; I always strive to do more and want more. Personally, I’m doing well. I’m currently in a great relationship, I’m in love and living together. I have a wonderful family that unfortunately I see little of because I live abroad, but for now, I’m happy. I live life day by day, because you never know what the future holds.
